I held a solo exhibition titled “When Stories Are Born, the World Begins (August 22–27, 2016)” at GALLERY b. TOKYO in Kyobashi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo. In this show, I presented a series of drawings accompanied by written texts, all centered on the theme of “the story itself.”

Since time immemorial, people have created folktales, legends, and myths—and through those very narratives, deepened their understanding of the world around them.

Faced with the unknown, they felt awe and wonder, recognized a sense of the sacred, and honored it through worship and ritual. At the same time, they wove stories that shaped their own images of what lay beyond human comprehension.

A story, in this context, is a means of coming to terms with the yet‐to‐be‐known; it is a process by which individuals, groups, and societies define their very foundation. Through stories, we can grasp—instinctively—why we exist here and now. In other words, one might say the world begins with a story.
