When Stories Are Born, the World Begins
Since ancient times, people have created folktales, legends, and myths, deepening their understanding of the world around them through these stories. They felt awe before the unknown, yet also sensed mystery within it. Recognizing a sense of the sacred, they revered and worshipped it. Through the act of storytelling, they gradually constructed images of that which lay beyond their understanding.
Stories are a means of deepening our understanding of the unknown, and can also be seen as a process through which individuals and societies give shape to the foundations of their existence.Through stories, we intuitively grasp why we exist here and now.
In this sense, the world begins with stories.
About the Works
This series was created between 2015 and 2017.
At the time, my interest in picture books, manga, and children’s literature led me to explore the relationship between images and stories.
Motifs such as figures, masks, still lifes, forests, lakes, and stars appear as images reminiscent of fragments of stories.
